Aerial Yoga

At Matter, aerial yoga is a playful and supportive practice designed to build strength, mobility and balance while helping the body release tension and move with greater ease. Using the support of the hammock, classes combine mindful movement, breath and deep stretch to decompress the spine, improve flexibility and develop confidence both physically and mentally.

Created as a space for movement, healing and connection, our small classes offer a welcoming environment where you can slow down, reconnect with your body and experience movement as something joyful, grounding and restorative — never punishing or performative.

Classes

A gentle, restorative class designed to help you slow down, release tension and improve flexibility. Using the support of the yoga hammock, you’ll move through deeply supported stretches that create space in the spine, hips and shoulders while encouraging nervous system relaxation. This calming practice is ideal for relieving stress, easing tight muscles and restoring ease and mobility in the body. If you are new to aerial, this is a great place to start.

Aerial Ignite

A strength and stability-based using yoga hammocks to build deep core activation, balance and body awareness. Through controlled bodyweight movement and stabilising exercises, the class helps strengthen supporting muscles around the joints, improving posture and reducing tension and everyday aches. Expect a challenging but supportive practice designed to leave you feeling stronger, more balanced and more connected to your body.

Aerial Release

A progressive 6-week aerial yoga course designed to help you build strength, confidence and fluidity in the hammock. In a small, supportive group, you’ll learn a signature aerial flow combining deep stretch, climbs, inversions and graceful transitions while developing full-body strength and control. By the end of the course, you’ll move through a beautiful sequence with greater ease, confidence and connection — both to your practice and the aerial yoga community around you.

Aerial Flow

A dynamic class that blends strength, mobility and stretch through fluid movement in the hammock. Combining playful transitions, inversions, climbs and flowing sequences, this energising practice builds confidence, flexibility and full-body strength while encouraging freedom and joy in movement. Expect a fun, uplifting class that challenges the body and leaves you feeling empowered and energised.

Your Questions Matter

  • Absolutely not. Nobody arrives gliding gracefully through the air on day one. Aerial yoga helps you build strength, mobility, and confidence over time — exactly as you are. If in doubt, start with one of our Aerial Release classes or a private session.

  • Only if you plan on stopping having fun entirely. Aerial yoga can be adapted for a wide range of ages and abilities, and many students are surprised by how supported and accessible it feels.

  • That’s completely normal. Inversions are always optional, and we never rush them. Most people go from “absolutely not” to “wait… can I do that again?” much faster than they expect.

  • Yes — very safely. The equipment is specifically designed for aerial practice and professionally rigged to support 5 tonnes per suspesion position. The hammock is stronger than your group chat opinions.

  • Sometimes challenging, often surprising, and usually far more achievable than it looks. Expect moments of effort balanced with plenty of laughter, support, and deeply satisfying floating.

  • It depends on the injury, but many movements can be adapted. We always recommend speaking with your instructor beforehand so we can help you practise safely and comfortably.

  • Classes are kept intentionally supportive and manageable so everyone receives guidance, space, and attention throughout the session.

  • Because it makes movement feel joyful again. There’s something wonderfully freeing about being supported, challenged, and slightly upside down all at once.

  • Please do. Many students arrive solo, and the studio quickly becomes a warm, welcoming space where people feel comfortable and connected.

  • Honestly, both. Some classes feel strong and energising, others deeply restorative, and many somehow manage to be both within the same hour.

  • Comfortable clothing you can move in, ideally covering the backs of the knees and underarms to avoid fabric burn. Think “elegant ninja” rather than “festival glitter”.

  • Then we try another one. Progress in aerial yoga isn’t about performing perfectly — it’s about building trust in your body, one wobble at a time.

  • Not at all. Aerial yoga is for anybody with a body and a sense of curiosity. Strength, flexibility, balance, and playfulness aren’t gendered — and neither is hanging upside down.
